man who removes furniture in addition to carrying out other classes of haulage business has a place, was expressed by Mr. j. H. Stirk, the East Midland Licensing Authority, last week.

He was replying to Councillor Geoffrey Barnett, for the Leicester Furniture Removers Association, who objected to the renewal of portions of several haulage licences relating to furniture removal. Councillor Barnett said that he did not think it desirable that small furniture removers should be allowed to operate for a considerable distance.

Mr. Stirk concurred in this view, but felt that the class of business in which these men were interested was that of removing from one part of a district to another_ It was a class of business that members of the objecting Asso ciation need not fear. He had been restricting this type of trade to a radius of five miles, and he adopted this course in several cases before him.
