AFTER the Armistice the Sheffield Simplex Co. placed on the market a 40 cwt. lorry well designed on orthodox lines. They have now introduced a 30 cwt. Chassis, which will be exhibited on their tand.

This 30 cwt. chassis is a foot shorter in the wheelbase than the 40 cwt. vehicle, and is lighter in many respects, although the engine, clutch and gearbox used on the larger vehicle are employed without alteration. The new vehicle bee 11, ft. wheelbase with a wheel track of 5 ft., the platform length behind the cab being 9 ft. In a pressed steel frame, amply stiffened by cross-mernbera and by an X-bracing to the overhung portion behind the rear axle there is supported on three points a ?our-cylinder engine with the cylinders at in pairs, the internal dimensions of the cylinders being 100 -rem, bore by 120 mm. stroke, jackets cooled therme-syphonically, and with large inspection ports to the Base chamber, transmitting its power through a large leather-faced cone clutch and a nnivereal joint to the three-speed gearbox. The gears are ample in dimensions, whilst the shafts themselves are short and sturdy. There is a cross pin typo of universal joint to the forward end of the propeller shaft and a pot type -universal joint to the rear end, the shaft being solid.

The rear axle is worm driven, the worm bihg verhead, the back axle being a strong casting of what is known as the pot type. The 4 ft. springs are of ample width, the road wheels being of cast steel with tubular spokes, equipped with 8 mm fiont tyree and 85 mm. rear twin tyres. The brakes are of ample dimensions, and the whole' vehicle is a really sturdy job.
