Walker Brothers (Wigan), Ltd., Page.

• field Works, Wigan.

Stand No. 23'.

TWO types of Pagefield vehicles will be 'shown by Walker Bros. (Wigan), Ltd. They will be the F type with 40 h.p. engine, which is adapted for either motor co-ach work or for carrying useful loads of three tons, and the M.K. type, also with a' 40 h.p. engine, with a specially short wheelbase of 8 ft. 3 ins., and a rear track of 4 ft. 31, ins. The turning radius Of the machine is 18 ft., thus making, it especially suitable for work in restricted areas. Its useful load capacity is 31 tons.

Both vehicles are fitted with Dorman engines, and in each case four speeds are provided. In these the second, third, and fourth speeds are of the constant mesh type, the engagement being by means of dog clutches. The transmission is by overhead worm gearing.

Having given a resume of the chief points of construction, we will now proceed i70 describe, them in further detail. The first-mentioned vehicle, i.e., t.i* suitable for passenger work or for loads of 3 tons, has a fcmiecylinder engine of 120 ram. bore and 140 mm. stroke, de

veloping between 38 and 40 b.h.p. at 1,000 r.p.m. The radiator is of the usual. vertical gilled-tube type, with east aluminium top and bottom tanks, and the water circulation is by pump. The engine is controlled to a maximum speed of 1,000 r.p.m. by a governor of the centrifugal type, and the drive is taken through a Ferodo-faced cone clutch to the gearbox, in which the gearshafts run on roller bearings. Behind the gear. box is a loco-type foot brake, the "hand brake acting on drums on the rear wheels.

The appearance of the vehicle is greatly improved by the disc wheels, which run on phosphor-bronze bushes. Either pneumatic or solid tyres can be utilized, but when fitted with the former Timken taper roller bearings are provided for all wheels. The. machine is geared to 161 m.p.h. at normal engine speed. From the gearbox the drive is transmitted to the overhead worm through a nickel-steel cardan shaft.

C48 In the short wheelbaseechassis the engine employed is the same as that on the passenger model. The radiator, cooling, and governor are also eimilar, and, • in feet, most of the other components are the same as those employed on this model, the differences lying only in the short wheelbase and the positioning of the driver and ,cab above the engine.
