THE vehicles being prepared for the Show by P.ansomes, Sims and Jefferies, Ltd., will certainly afford a most comprehensive display. The largest of them is a 5 ton steam wagon fitted with a standard platform body. This vehicle is of the overhead type with loco. -type boiler, and is a very interesting

one in its class. The boiler is stayless and is the subject of a patent. ft is built up of four plates only. The engine is compound and is controlled by an ingenious arrangement which can be operated by the steersman or driver as required, and the crankshaft is balanced by two discs arranged between the bearinu, which take the place of the single tl:verlieel usually employed.

The electrical department ha a several exhibits in preparation.. The meet novel of these is ati electric runabout crane. This machine is mounted on email. rubber-tyred wheels, 4o arranged that the vehicle can run backwards or forwards or pivot round on its own ventre. As regards electrical vehicles for read work, there will be two models—a 2 tonnor and a 4 tonner. The former has two direct current motors totally enclosed and secured to the -longitudinal transverse members of the frame. The drive from each motor is transmitted through an independent eountershaft to the rear road wheels by double helical gear and roller chain. This helical gear is totally enclosed and rune in grease. The batteries are stored in a special compartment beneath the driver's seat.

Two forward speeds and a reverse are provided, the operating lever working in a gate change quadrant and being interlocked with the pedal connected to the rheostatic drum.

• In the 4 twiner the same arrangement of motors and driving gear is employed. The Ironclad-Eel& batteries have a capacity of 290 amp. hours, and are arranged in two trays slung one at each side of the chassis frame, between the front and rear wheels.
