Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Dennis• Brothers, Ltd., Woodbridge

Works, Guildford.

Stand. No, 50.

THE visitor to Stand No. 50 will find a. fine selection of Dennis productions on view. There will be in all six exhibits, including a stripped chassis, and the bodies have all been made at the Guildford works.

It is only natural, in view of the reputation of the firm in fire-fighting circles, that a fire-engine should be ex

hibited. It, is what is known as the 50 h.p. Light type, and is mounted on Michelin-type disc wheels and pneumatic tyres—twins at rear. The centrifugal pump is, as usual, mounted on the rear end of the chassis, and on this model the external appearance has been considerably improved by redesign. An improvement has also been made by providing the bearing which takes the thrust of the pump impeller with a water jacket.

The typo of drive, familiar on former Dennis fire-engines, in which the pinup shaft drive is housed in a separate casing midway between the gearbox and the engine, has been abandoned on this .model. Instead, the gearbox is carried farther forward, and has been completely redesigned to accommodate the pump shaft, drive, which is by means of a chain of gearwheels, which engage with the constant-mesh pinion. This gearbox provides four forward road speeds and reverse.

The-well ribbed stee1 rear axle casing is provided with two torque members, and the drive is by overhead Dennis worm gearing. -Both foot and hand brakes are of ample proportions, of the• metal-to-rhetaI type, as is customary on

this make of vehicle. Central handz brake and change:sPeed levers are fitted. . The 30-seater single'-deck bus., mounted • on a 40 h.p. Ions wheelbase 'chassis, reflects great credit on the .Dennis coach builders... • •

The chassis is..t1ie4 ton omnibus type, with 'a four-cylinder engine of 115 mm. by 150 mm. bve and stroke, developing 4'MO h.p.

The. 30-seater coach will be probably one of the most handsome_ passengercarrying vehicles at the Show. It is built with bullion's sides, which., white facilitating neat upholstering, gives, in combination with the taper bonnet, a very-fine. appearance. The driver's seat has a door on either -side, but the other

doors are all on the near side. It is fitted with the Dennis patent hood, which goes a long way towards the-solution of the hood problem. The chassis is similar to that on which the saloon bus is fitted.

Visitors to the Show will also have the opportunity of seeidg, and trying, a 20seater ennis coach, which will be outside thDe Show for demonstration purposes.

Municipal authorities and others will be interested in the 5-6 ton hydraulic tipping ,lorry which will be on view. A remarkably good feature of this vehicle is the verST small amount of space taken up by the hydraulic cylinder.

The chassis is of exceptionally sturdy construction throughout, arid fitted with the four-cylinder engine of 115 mm. and 150 mm. bore and stroke.

Considerable interest will undoubtedly centre around the 2-2i ton chassis which will be shown. This is similar to that which carries the 20-seater coach body. It will be mounted on Dunlop giant pneumatic tyres, 36 ins. by 6 ins, in front and 40 ins. by 8 ins, at the rear, fitted to cast-steel wheels. This represents a really fine example of comparatively light duty commercial vehicle design.
