Argos improves payload with lsuzu trucks and Bevan bodies
ARGOS HAS BOUGHT 25 new lsuzu 7.5-tonne trucks and 100 aerodynamic demountable boxes from the Bevan Group, which improve payload by 500kg when combined, The Isuzu N75 Forward trucks, the first on the Argos fleet, have been added because they are around 300kg lighter than the DAF LF truck that dominates the fleet.
The aerodynamic Bevan21 boxes have light-weight panels, plastic tie rails, and pre-coloured and powdercoated extrusions and fixings to reduce the standing weight of the boxes by more than 200kg.
The deal for the Bevan21 truck body follows a two-year trial that has established a 4.5% fuel saving.
David Rose, general manager for the Argos Home Delivery operation, says the combination of both the lightweight truck and aerodynamic body improves fuel efficiency and cutsthe carbon footprint.
Our planned routes typically entail 33 deliveries per day—the extra carrying capacity freed up by this new combination should allow our drivers to make an extra four or five drops, which represents a very useful increase in productivity" he says.
