Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The market appears to be led by the light truck sector this year, with 7,5-tonne sales currently up some 4% for the year to date, despite the repeated predictions of its decline. This sector is led by Iveco with its ever popular Eurocargo range, though in virtually every other part of the market Daf is the leader.

Overall. the Paccar-owned company sits atop the market with a 22% year-to-date market share; Mercedes has consolidated its position as the UK's number two truck brand with Iveco in third spot.

Outside the light truck sector Iveco continues to struggle. Recent indications that it is aiming to increase its showing in the heavy truck sector will be welcome news to the powers-that-be at the Italian HQ: to the end of September the company had just 4.6% of the market above 15 tonnes.

A resurgent Iveco in this sector should be good news for truck buyers as twill probably spark a price war in the ultra-competitive tractor unit sector.

Renault continues to make steady market progress. The arrival of the new MD and his stated focus on customer service should begin to bear friA in the medium term.

Daf, Mercedes, Volvo and Scania are the top four in the tractor sector. Mercedes has made

massive strides in this area over the past 18 monthssome big orders from the likes of Hill Hire. Tesco and Hanbury Davies have recent improved its position further.

The market continues to shift toward 6x2 tractors with demand for 4x2s continuing to fall: they now account for just 25% of tractor unit registrations.

Despite gaining preferred bidder status for the giant MoD order, MAN-ERF is finding it aifficult to carve out more of the market. Another reorganisation at the Swindon head office should ensure the focus is in place to start selling trucks -then, as always, the market will decide
