Here's a bunch of lads who can confidently claim to know one end of a rope from the other. Sponsored by Cheshire-based truck manufacturer ERF, Bosley (Wood Treatment) Tug of War Club have pulled off two gruelling championship tournaments this year. The amateur team, from near Congleton, became English Champions at a national event held in Plymouth in June. They outtugged 30 teams from all over the country earning the right to represent the UK in Europe. In September, at Slagharen in the Netherlands, the team saw off the competition to come out on top of some 50 European teams in the 720kg category. The Tug of War Club was founded 45 years ago and today has an 18-strong team from 16 to 44 in age and from 10 to 16 stone in weight. A handy bunch to come across if your vehicle is stuck in a ditch.
