the £1,000 VED rebate club, having obtained Reduced Pollution Certificates for its Series 60 range. The US-built 12.7-litre engines, only available in the UK in ERF chassis, have just been approved in 370, 430 and 470hp versions.
Detroit is proud of the fact that the actual truck tested was a working ERF EC127 operated by Cawley Brothers of Llanrwst. The electronically controlled engine, with more than 50,000km on the clock, was tested at 470hp, when it recorded a particulate reading of 0.052g/kWh. and at 370hp, with a reading of 0.0490Wh. Approval for the 430hp version was given automatically. The limit needed for issue of an RPC is 0.08g/kWh. Detroit claims that the figures are the lowest yet seen at the Millbrook test ground.
