• DaimlerChrysler has revealed the first details of its new Sprinter range, which will be unveiled at Amsterdam's RAI Show in February. The company aims to reinforce Sprinter's position at the top of the power tree—its new diesel engines will range from 80hp 160kW to a massive 154hp (115kW ).
The cab will feature a Vito-style dashboardmounted gear lever and three-point safety belts on all three seats. Options will include side airbags (a first in the commercial vehicle market) and a fully automatic climate control system.
Also available will be an automatic stop-start system, which will cut the engine after three seconds at rest and start it again when the clutch lever is depressed. Mercedes claims that this will reduce emissions and fuel consumption by up to 8%.
