Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Belgian police warn that truck drivers are being attacked with knock-out sprays almost daily. Thieves are spraying drivers with sedatives while they sleep in their cabs.

The latest incident happened last week at Juideeke services between Ghent and Antwerp.

Arthur Aspen, a driver for Dumfries-based J&J Currie, says that the thieves got away with almost b400 after feeding gas into his cab through the gearstick opening and smashing a doorlock.

The Belgian police weren't very interested," he says. "They say attacks like these are happening all the time but there's not much that they can do about it. People seem to think that immigrants are responsible— they're trying to get the cash to pay off ringleaders who offer them false ID or a way of getting across the Channel."

Aspen says there have even been reports of syringes being used to get gas through cab window seals.

The Road Haulage Association advises drivers to be particularly careful when stopping within 100km of the Channel ports.
