the transport group which he was instrumental in forming in 1960 and which is now controlled by the Transport Holding Co. In recognition of his services the other directors of Tayforth have presented him with a silver salver. The new chairman is W. R. Alexander, previously deputy chairman.
R. Pitt has been appointed assistant traffic manager of Trent Motor Traction Co., Ltd. in succession to A. J. Price, who has been appointed manager of the Mexborough and Swinton Traction Co.. Ltd.
Professor Heinrich Nordhoff, director-general of Volk swagenwerk AG has been appointed chairman of the administrative council of the Deutsche Automobil Gesellschaft, the joint company set up by Volkswagenwerk AG and Daimler-Benz AG to co-operate in research, technical and design study. Dr. Joachim Zahn, director-general of Daimler-Benz, has been appointed vice-chairman.
The special BET prize awarded annually to the passenger road transport company employee who qualifies for the "Diploma in Road Transport" and obtains the highest marks in any five Royal Society of Arts road transport papers, has been won this year by Thomas Duggan. Mr. Duggan is a traffic assistant at Leicester for the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co. Ltd.
The former apprentice who became the first chief of BMC, Lord Lambury of Northfield, has retired from the board at the age of 70. Lord Lambury (formerly Sir Leonard Lord) was created BMC president in 1961 and will continue as honorary president so that his experience will still be available to the Corporation.
Rohn Hopper has given up his public relations consultancy to take up the full-time appointment of chief information officer to the British Standards Institution. He succeeds W. McMillan who left to become first PRO for the Cumbemauld New Town Development Corporation.

Honorary membership will still be reserved for members or non-members who have contributed to the RHA or the haulage industry in a nationally important way. A. C. Pye, formerly production manager of the company's Scottish division, has been appointed production manager of the Luton and Sundon factories of Sketko Ball Bearing Co. Ltd.
D. Robert Bell has been appointed plant manager of Vauxhall Motors' Ellesmere Port plant. For the past two years Mr. Bell has been manager of the body and stamping plant of the Chevrolet motor division of General Motors Corporation at Indianapolis, USA.
John Ferguson Bedford has been appointed a director of Chamberlain Industries Ltd., of Staffa Works, Argall Avenue, London E10, the hydraulics engineering and pipe bending machine company of the Chamberlain Group.
A. J. Isaacs, who became managing director and chairman in 1918 has retired as managing director but retains his position as chairman of Bramber Engineering Co., Ltd. J. G. J. Samuels who joined the company in 1955, has been appointed managing director.
Moving from plant production manager to deputy managing director of Bostrom Manufacturing Co., Ltd., is 38-year-old Peter J. Bennett. Dick Cockerill, 30, becomes plant production manager.

He will be visiting Ceylon, Singapore, the Philippines,' Hong Kong, North America, Bermuda and Caribbean islands.
Philip Anthony Millard, has been 'appointed Manager of Yates' Tours Ltd., Runcorn. He was previously assistant divisional manager, Merseyside, with Crosville Motor Services Ltd.
OBITUARY
We regret to record the death of Mr. C. R. Tattam.
Mr. Tattam, who was 80, was general manager of Bradford Corporation Transport from 1931 to 1951 and moved to Hove when he retired 15 years ago.
