MR. Ttmortly FODEN, son of the late Mr. Dennis Foden, has been appointed to the board of E.R.F. (Holdings), Ltd.

MR. GORDON WATSON TODD, manager of the National Sales Department of Shell-Max and B.P., Ltd., since the department's inception in 1954, retired on October 31. He had had 38 years' service with the company. He is succeeded by MR. W. CHARLTON who was until recently manager of the Shell-Mex and B.P. branch at Reading.

MR. ALEXANDER (" SANDY ") GE.MMELL,

deputy manager of the motor department of James Robertson (Factors), Ltd., Glasgow, has retired from business after almost 38 years' service. He has served three generations of the Robertson family and is a popular and widely known figure in the Scottish motor trade. Mr. Gemmel]. is succeeded by MR. JAMES BROWN, his assistant for the past 18 months. MR. E. CitarmeroN, engineering consultant to the Coventry Victor Motor Co., Ltd., has been appointed technical director of the company. He was recently awarded the Henderson Medal by the Franklin Institute of Philadelphia in recognition of his work on the Deltic engine.

MR. JOHN BOARDMAN has been appointed chairman and chief executive of the Burtonwood Engineering Co., Ltd. He succeeds MR. R. DtrrroN FORSHAW, who resigns from the Board on Monday. Another appointment announced this week to the Board of Directors of Burtonwood is MR. BERNARD C. SHRUBSOLE. joint managing director of U.S. Industries, Inc. (Great Britain). Ltd.. the European-based company of U.S. Industries. Burtonwood Engineering was acquired by U.S. Industries in 1959. which has considerable American interests.

MR. WILLIAM LINDSAY has been appointed assistant managing director of Transport (Bristol), Ltd. He was formerly district traffic superintendent at British Road Services Home Counties District, Rochester, Kent. A pre-war haulier, Mr. Lindsay began his transport career in Glasgow in 1930 with Pitt and Scott, Ltd. Three years later he joined Ex Army Transport, Ltd., later known as North Western Transport Services. Ltd. When British Road Services was first brought into being he was appointed group traffic superintendent at East Bristol Group,, transferring in 1952 to the Medway Group at Rochester, then spending 18 months at the divisional office in London.

MR. E. G. COMMANDER has retired from the Board of The Rover Co.. Ltd., after 65 years with the company. MR. L. G. T. FARMER is to be appointed executive vice-chairman after the annual general meeting in December, subject to the passing of a resolution creating this office. Mr. Farmer will be responsible for guiding policy on financial and commercial matters. MR. M. F. C. WILES is to be sole managing director, and MR. W. F. F. MARTIN-HURST has been appointed a director and deputy managing director. MR. A. B. SMITH has been appointed to the Board as supplies director. It is intended to appoint MR. G. LLOYD DIXON a director after the annual general meeting in December, subject to the passing of a resolution increasing the total number of members of the Board. MR. C. J. Pey-rote will be joining the company shortly and it is intended to appoint him executive director (Finance). MR. W. J. ROBINSON has been appointed executive director (Production—Solihull). MR. A. G. S. HERBERT, at present in charge of export, has been appointed an executive director. MR. M. W. B. KNiutrr has been appointed executive director (Industrial Relations and Welfare), and has already taken up his new position. MR. A. H. FUHRIG has been appointed manager, technical division, of The Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Co. (Great Britain), Ltd., in succession to MR. H. L. MATHESON, who has now returned to the parent company in Akron, Ohio.

Mr. Fuhrig, who comes from St. Louis. Missouri, has been at the Wolverhampton plant for two years as assistant technical division manager.

OBITUARY

wE regret to record the deaths of MR. VT V. H. NEWTON and MR HUGH B. FRAZER.

Mr. Newton was a director of C. T. Newton (Nottingham), Ltd., and was 38. He was a member of the East Midlands Area Committee, Road Haulage Association, a past chairman of the Nottingham sub-area, and a member of the Milk . Carriers Functional Group National Committee. Mr. Newton leaves a widow and young family.

Mr. Frazer, aged 71, was a pioneer of public transport in Largs and district. He was a director of Clyde Coast Services. Ltd., and had been associated with bus services for 53 years.
