Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DEARING no resemblance to other

chassis in the Guy range, the new Warrior 8-tonner, which will be seen for the first time at Kelvin Hall today, is a substantially built four-wheeler suitable for gross weights of 42 tons, or, as a tractor model, for a gross train weight of 17 tons.

When shown at Earls Court last year the prototype of this vehicle was named the Big Otter. During the past 12 months it has been. completely redesigned and given its present name to' avoid conveying the impression that it is merely an uprated version of the standard Otter 6-ton chassis.

As stated in the October 21 issue of The Commercial Motor, the chassis is powered by a Meadows 4DC 330 5.43litre direct-injection oil engine. A Meadows five-speed direct-drive-top constant-mesh gearbox, an Eaton 16,500 two-speed ax:e and a Clayton Dewandre-Girling air-hydraulic braking system are other mechanical units. A re-styled forward-control cab incorporates several components of plastics.

Five types of chassis are in. the Warrior range. The standard goods versions consist of three Models having wheelbases of 10 ft. 6 in., 13 ft. 3 in. and 15 ft. 9 in. A fourth chassis is to be made available with a wheelbase of 18 ft. 2 in. It will be suitable for panteclanicOn and passenger bodywork. The tractor chassis has a 9-ft. wheelbase.

The Meadows engine is a Series II version. The modifications to the Series I consist principally of a stronger drive for the lubricating-oil pump, a change in the material specification, of the timing gears to ensure a quieter drive, and slight modifications to the cylinder head to alleviate the risk of bubbling gaskets.

To ensure maximum longevity, despite rough usage, the cam and double-roller steering gear is similar to that used in the Invincible maximum-loadrange of chassis, and other components arc on a similar scale. Fitted bolts are used throughout the frame and —an interesting detail-the spare-wheel carrier is rubber mounted: Helper springs are used at the rear. .

• The cab is similar to the all metal assembly employed on other ' Guy chassis, but it is mounted farther forward to give a greater payload space and thus there is no external radiator shell. The wings, lower front panels, bonnet top and instrumentpanel cowl are made from glass-fibre reinforced polyester resin, and are not stressed in any way. . Windscreen washers are a standard fitting.

The chassis and cab taxation weight of the smaller goods. chassis is quoted as 3 tons 6 cwt., giving a clear allowance for an 8-ton payload plus a body.
