Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

London Transport buses are to be subjected to experiments, which, if they succeed, will be of .great practical value. Latetype vehicles, 250 in all, arezto be fitted with cab' heaters and _windscreen demisters and two kinds of traffic indicator. These will become standard equipment on all post-war buses if the experiments be successful.

The heater and demister installation is .similar to that used on private cars. Warm water from . the engine passes through a .small radiator in the driver's cab. Air drawn through the radiator is thus heated.before.being redistributed by .means of a .fan. A jet of hot air is directed on the windscreen and prevents it from misting up In cold weather.

The two types of traffic indicator to be used in this experiment have been chosen after carefultesting by the bus and coach development section of London Transport has elimbated other less reliable patterns. The vast number Of operations per trafficator per annum in buses covering, 50,000-60,000 miles a year obviously demands robust con. struction.

The first of the two types to be tried has the normal one-piece arm, but the second has an articulated arm, which 'has been developed in the 'hope that it will not be broken when vehicles are handled in confined spaces. The orange-coloured section of the arm can be bent through 90 degrees. Both types will work in conjunction with an illuminated arrow built into the rear number-plate. They will be operated by means of .a time-controlled hand switch in the cab. Service performance and drivers' reactions are to be carefully studied.
