New Shrewsbury and Challiner Tire Depot.

The illustration we reproduce herewith is of a Shrewsbury • and Challiner tire depot which has recently been opened by that company at 113, Edmund Street, Birmingham. The premises consist of a spacious showroom in which is exhibited a number of the company's well-known solid and pneumatic tires, whilst the basement of the building is suitably equipped for the fitting of tires, alteration of wheels; etc. The depot is lighted throughout by electricity. Although it is not noticeable from our illustration, a covered way is provided at the rear of the premises where vehicles can be garaged whilst the wheels are fitted -with new tires.

We understand that the depot .has already proved of considerable benefit to commercial-vehicle users in the Midlands, who are able to have their machines re-shod and on the road again in a few hours.

A big s.tock of solid tires is always held in. hand, and everything has been done in order expeditiously to meet users' requirements.

Dunlop Pressure Gauge.

A new pressure gauge for pneumatic tires has recently been introduced by the Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd. This accessory is the result of careful experiments which the company has made for some time past, and it is claimed that the device can be relied upon for accuracy and prolonged service. The mechanismi.s quite simple and consists of a coiled spring and a piston enclosed in a cylinder.

The working of the tester is as follows. When it is applied to the valve the plunger is depressed by the projecting pin at its base. The force of the escaping air causes the piston to rise, and the motion. produced by this action is recorded on the gauge by an indicator which returns to its normal position after the air pressure has been withdrawn. We are informed that a special size of the Dunlop tester is made suitable for use with American valves of different sizes.

Champion Sparking Plugs.

Sparking plug trouble it not nowadays part of the commercial vehicle users' daily experience.Manufacturers have long since come to the conclusion that it is folly to fit accessories of this sort that are of anything but good class. The users of American vehicles will be interested to learn that the Champion plu i

g, which s used to a considerable extent on those vehicles, is made in different varieties, some of which are stated to be particularly suitable for commercialvehicle work. We illustrate herewith a sample of tbe ordinary touring ear plug side by side with whatigs described as the "Champion Heavy Stone Plug," the difference in construction, as regards sturdiness, and simplicity, is apparent.

The touring car plug is built up in the ordinary way with copper and asbestos washers held in place by a screwed-down gland. On the other hand, one of the features of the larger plug is its one-piece construction. By combining great pressure and heat the shell is completely sealed on the shoulder of the porcelain. It is stated that this method-:results in the elimination of any fear of loss or compression. The Champion Sparking Plug Co. is a typical American manufacturing company, who specialize in sparking plugs only, applying U.S.A. quantity production methods, and claim to turn out no fewer than 50,000 per day. In addition to several models for special types of commercial vehicles and touring cars, they make one type specially .suitable for Ford ears, and we are informed that they claim the right to the name "Ford plug."
