• Two new dealers will represent Steyr Trucks (UK), in the Midlands and West Yorkshire, joining the 13 existing agents.
Clarke Commercials, Can Moor Side, Leeds, specialises in contract hire and quality used commercial vehicle sales, and is now fully operational representing Steyr, with trained staff, and Steyr chassis and parts in stock.
Fenton Truck Centre, East Bute Street, Fenton, Stoke-onTrent, a member of the Birch group, is also now up and running as a Steyr dealer.
Steyr aims to have 20 full dealers around the country by the end of the year, and is presently negotiating with dealers in north Wales, Suffolk, Norfolk, and Teesside.
COFIELD CUTS COSTS • GuileId Insurance of Birmingham is offering a new insurance deal for owner-operators and operators of two or three vehicles, which it says gives a saving of between 8-22% compared to other schemes. The discounts apply to vehicles valued at under £30,000, although high value vehicles, Continental and fleet risks can also be quoted for in the normal way.
Cofield's view is that small operators usually run vehicles which are a few years old and so should not have to pay the high premiums dictated by new machines.
To complement their motor insurance rates, Cofield has also launched a goods-in-transit and legal expenses policy.

announced that its freight control system is to be updated with the introduction of a new computer system by 31 May 1992. The CHIEF system (Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight) will replace and extend the services provided by the present Departmental Entry Processing System (DEPS).

The 1989-1990 edition of the "Haulage Manual" is now available from the RHA. It contains an up-to-date A-Z of information on all aspects of the hireand-reward sector of road freight transport. REACHING THE PARTS • A Paccar Parts Rental Centre has been opened in Strood, Gloucestershire, to remanufacture a wide range of parts. Paccar Parts are available for Bendix, Caterpillar, Clayton, Cummins, Eaton, Fuller, Gardner, Lipe, Rolls Royce and Spicer. Remanufactured Cat parts are now available through Foden dealers in the UK.
All major units are available in Paccar Parts remanufactured format including engines, gearboxes, differentials, starters/ alternators, brake assemblies, power-steering pumps, steering boxes, clutches and compressors. Prices are available from Foden distributors.
• Celsius, the transport refrigeration service, is offering to reclaim CFCs (Chlorofluorocarbons) when evacuating systems in a move to reduce the amount of contaminated gas being released into the atmosphere. VEHICLE MANAGEMENT • The Institution of Mechanical Engineers is holding an international conference in London on 28/29 June on "managing the vehicle on the road".
The conference will cover vehicle provision and maintenance, links between manufacturers and users, computers, operation costs and controls, vehicle legislation, fuel security and wheel security. Speakers include Roads and Traffic Minister Peter Bottomley; Klaus Schubert, technical director of MAN; and John Berry from the Department of Transport.

• V-Tronix has introduced a range of high-power voltage convertors to deal with communication and entertainment equipment now being fitted as standard in many tracks.
Radio telephones, cellular phones and Band III all operate from 12V DC as do cassette systems and colour TVs, but European trucks use 24V DC. To enable these truck manufacturers to offer 12V DC accessories, V-Tronix have developed a 12amp 24-12V convertor operating on 95% efficiency and enclosed in a splash-proof case. INFORMATION SYSTEMS WIPING WINDSCREENS
• Accessory manufacturer Holt Lloyd has produced a new windscreen wipe pack called Screenies. Each resealable pack contains 20 tissue wipes impregnated with a nonsmearing, non-toxic substance.
The Screenies are designed for use inside the vehicle and will retail at 99p from car accessory shops, garage forecourts and supermarkets.

The kit consists of two metal cases; the first stocking the necessary tools to fit and secure all terminals; and the second containing stocks of 16 different terminals.
