• Ford more than doubled its pre-tax profits in 1988 to 2673 million — smashing the company's previous 1979 record of 2386 million.
During the year, a record 36,844 Ford Escort and Fiesta vans were sold. Fiesta van registrations reached 5,221 (up from 5,036 in 1987), and Escort van sales hit 31,623 (28,223 in 1987). The Ford P100 accounted for 37.4% of all 4x2 pickup registrations in its first full year of sales.
Total group's turnover rose by 13.9% to 25.9 billion: UK turnover amounted to £4.3 billion. Ford has dominated light commercial vehicle registrations for the 10th year in succession with a market share of 31.3%.
