My eye was drawn to a headline, "D-day on RHA works gradings," in Public Service, the Nalgo newspaper. It was not, I soon discovered, a reference to the organisation much loved by hauliers.
The story began: "Decision day on the claim for new grades and better salary scales for all regional health authority works staff is 29 February."
The staff will have to be frightfully patient but after next year they can at least expect a rise every four years.
