A customer who attended the trailer launching ceremony complained that three months after the truck rental service was introduced the rates were increased, which made him suspect that they were merely a "come-on." Were BRS going to raise their trailer hire tariff after a few months or would they guarantee to hold it for a certain period, he asked.
David White, BRS group managing director, assured him that the trailer hire charges were no loss-leader offer but he could not guarantee to maintain their present level. Truck hire rates had, he said, been raised in line with the movement in costs and without ulterior motive.
I gather that the ill wind of the lorry drivers' strike has been a boon to BRS truck rental and that the benefits will continue for some months.
