DR1NCIPAL guest at the annual luncheon of the Road Haulage Association on May 16 will be the Minister of Transport, Mr. Ernest Marples. He will reply to the toast of "Her Majesty's Government," to be proposed by the association's national chairman, Mr. J. B. Mitchell. One of the national vice-chairmen, Mr. D. 0. Good, will propose the _health of "The Guests" and Lord Brabazon of Tara will respond.

Guests who have already accepted invitations include Lord Chesham and Mr. John Hay,. Joint Parliamentary Secretaries, Ministry of Transport. Mr. I. A. Boyd-Carpenter. Minister of Pensions and National Insurance, other members of both Houses of Parliament and representatives of the Ministry of Transport (including a number of Licensing Authorities), the British Transport Commission (including Dr. R. Beeching, chairman), trade and industry and allied associations.

The luncheon will be followed by the association's annual general meeting. On the morning of the same day the present national council will meet for the last time and the new national council will meet the following morning, May 17.

At the meeting of the present national council on May 16 there will be a special ceremony in which Mr. J. B. Mitchell is to present commemorative badges to five past national chairmen of the R.H.A. They are Mr. H. T. Duffield (chairman 1945-48), Mr. F. F. Fowler (1950-52), Mr. James Barrie (1954-56), Mr. R. G. Crowther (1956-58) and Mr. R. N. Ingram (1958-60). Two others, Mr. B. G. Turner (1948-50) and Mr. B. Winterhottom (1952-54) cannot be there.
