ASSIGNMENTS of ex-British Road Services' vehicles are reported from nine areas this week. A number of direct purchases of transport units is also revealed,

SCOTLAND Thirteen lorries (594 tons) and three trailers have been added to the fleet operated by Alexander Scott (Contractors), Ltd., Glasgow. They came from the receiver and manager of E. E. Bamford (Contractors), Ltd., Affreton, Derbyshire. Central Garage (Bath&-ite), Ltd., Bathgate, have acquired four lorries (2(4 tons). Two of these (91 tons) were transferred by Messrs. Smith and Sanders, Balerno.

Mr. Donald .1. Malcolm, Johnstone, has taken over a vehicle (5 tons) from Mr. Sam Anderson, Newhouse ; D. M. Smith (Transport), Ltd., Wishaw; one (1 ton) from Central Garage (Bathgate), Ltd.; Mr. William Cowan, Falkirk, one (5 tons) from Messrs. Parks Transport, Hamilton ; John Rhind (Haulage Contractors), Ltd., Aberdeen, two (54 tons) from Messrs. Kendon Transport, Glasgow ; B.S.B. Transport Co., Glasgow, two (6 tons) from James Rice and Co., Ltd., Glasgow ; W. S. Jamieson (Haulage), Ltd., Barrhead, one (11 tons) from Mr.Ernest Sanderson, Bearsden; McCann and Mackay, Ltd., Glasgow, two (21 tons) from Messrs. Gillougley Motors, Johnstone ; and William Griffith (Whitburn), Ltd., Armadale, two lorries (104 tons) and a trailer from James Rice and Co., Ltd., Glasgow.

Special A licences have also been granted to Glasgow Hiring Co., Ltd., Glasgow, for two lorries (131 tons) and two trailers ; William Carmichael, Ltd., Glasgow, a lorry (54 Ions); Mr. James S. Dochard, Perth, one (34 tons); James Scott and Sons (Kiiitcaldy), Ltd.. Kirkcaldy. one (3 tons); Messrs. Wests Transport, Dunfermline, one (3 tons); John D. Burns and Co., Perth, two (114 tons); and D. Callander (Forfar), Ltd., Forfar, six (291.tons).

NORTHERN AREA

J. W. Capstaff, Ltd., Eastern and Western Lodges, Off Coach Lane, Little Benton, Newcastle upon Tyne, have taken over three lorries (5 tons 6 cwt.) from Orreli arid Brewster (Transport), Ltd., 125 Clayton Street, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Other assignments authorized by the Northern Licensing Authority are: a lorry (21 tons) to Cable Bros, (Haulage), Ltd., 105 Dans Castle, Tow Law, by Blenheim Haulage, Ltd., 28 The Side, Newcastle upon Tyne; one (7 tons) to Mr. S. Spink, Bertram House, Middleton Tyas, by Teesside Carriers, Ltd., Portrack Garage, Church Road, Stockton-on-Tees; and one (34 tons) to Messrs. P. and C. Young, Travellers Rest, Consett, by Mr. E. Waters, 84 St. Mary's Avenue, Monkseaton.

Messrs. E. Nelson and Sons, Trafalgar Garage, Arnside, have been granted a special A licence for another lorry (2 tons 18 cwt.).

Two hauliers have had special A licences revoked on the grant of ordinary A licences. They are Mr. Wm. Mulholland, Swifts Mews, Strand Road. Carlisle, whose special A licence for a lorry (2 tons 19 cwt.) has been replaced by an ordinary A licence for one (34 tons); and Messrs. E. and R. Proud, 3 Tudhoe Lane, Tudhoe Colliery, Spennymoor, who have replaced an articulated outfit (8 tons 1 cwt.) with a platform lorry weighing 74 tons unladen.

NORTH-WEST Three trailers have been acquired from two other operators by Messrs. Runcorn Transport Services, 34 Stanley Street, Runcorn. Two of them (41 tons) came from Mr. K. Miller, 5 Oakmere Avenue, Withnell, Chorlcy, and the other (21 tons) from Messrs. M. and S. Transport, 23 Brassey Street, Liverpool, 8. One of the trailers (3 tons) was taken over by Mr. Miller from Holden and Davies. Ltd., Albion Garage, Boston Road, Blackburn.

Other assignments authorized by the North-Western Licensing Authority arc: a lorry (71 tons) to Collingwood Haulage Co., Ltd., 62-68 Collingwood Street, Liverpool, 3, by Wilde and Bennett, Ltd., 75 Station Road, Hadfield, Manchester; two (7 tons) to Mr. L. Cleave. Holly Bank, Audlern, near Crewe, by Mr. W. Mackill, Huime, Manchester: one (3 tons) to J. and G. Rothwell, Ltd., 344 Manchester Road, Accrington, by Mr. W. Parkinson, 169 Stanley Street, Accrington ; one (3 tons)'to Mr. W. I. Williams, 119 Lisburn Lane, Offerton, Stockport, by Heywood Motors, -Ltd., Birch Garage, Heywood ; and one (7 tons) to Messrs. E. Nelson and Sons, Trafalgar Garage, Arnside, by Mr. J. J. Potts, Orford, Warrington.

WEST MIDLANDS Messrs. Knipe's Transport Services, Hungerstone, Court, Allensmore, Hereford, have taken over three lorries (144 tons) from Mr. C. F. Knipe, of the same address.

The West Midland Licensing Authority has also authorized the assignment of a lorry (34 tons) to Mr. A. Bennett, Blacksmith's Cottage, Green Lane, Studley, by Mr. P. I. Martin, 21 Queen's Court, Kingsway, Wolverhampton; one (34 tons) to C. H. Lambe and Sons, Ltd., Moat Hill Farm, Charford, Bromsgrove, by Mr. L. J. Lambe, of the same address; one (74 tons) to Lockyer's Transport, Ltd., 41 Howsell Road, Malvern Link. Worcs. by Western Transport, Ltd., 75 Feeder Road. Bristol, 2; one (34 tons) to Messrs. Plant and Evans, 28 Audmore Road, Gnosall, by Longton Transport, Ltd.. King Street, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent; and two (61 tons) to Mrs. J. M. Bagnall, Moss Side, Manchester, by Mr. T. J. Richardson, 100 Dudley Road East, Oldbury.

EAST MIDLANDS

Two lorries (5 tons 13 cwt.) have been acquired by Mr. 7. T. Cross, Park Road, Hartwell. Northampton. Other direct purchasers arc Mr. G. H. Morris, West View, Cotesbach. Rugby, who has bought a vehicle (2 tons 18 cwt.); and Tompkin's Removals, Ltd.. 100 Belgrave Road, Leicester, one (9 cwt.).

S. Hughes (Commercial), Ltd., Dick Lane, Bradford, 3, have transferred five lorries (25 tons 12 cwt.) to Murphy Bros., Ltd., Feature Buildings, Melton Road, Thurmastori. Leicester; one (2 tons 12 cwt,) to Messrs. Hobson Bros.. 6 Marsh Road, Crowle, Scunthorpe : and one (7 tons 3 cwt.) to J. T. Hunt (Worksop), Ltd. 76 Newgate.Street, Worksop.. .. Murphy Bros., Ltd., have re-assigned one of the lorries (51 tons) to Maurice James and Co., Ltd., in the West Midland Traffic Area. • • • Two lorries (15 tops 14 etvt,) have been made over to Messrs. McNulty Bros., Four Lane Ends, Oakenthorpe, near Alfreton, by Murphy Bros. (Transport Division), Ltd. 6-8 Selbournc Street, Loughborough. Mr. J. Brindley, Thie.Close, SharnfOrd, Hinckley, has sold six.more vehicles. Two (2 tons 18 cwt.) have gone to Mr. H. A. 11 iggrat, The Beeches, Heather, Leicester; two (2 tons•19 cwt.) to Mr. V. M. Winslow, 6 Edward Close, Kettering; one (2 tons 1 cwt.) to Frank Willis and Sons (Carriers); Ltd., Hardwick Road, Wellingborough; iind one (3 tons 12 cwt.) to Mr. J. Marston, $5 Moores Road, Leicester.

One (5 tong 11 cwt.) of two IcirrieS (1 I tons 2 cwt.) taken over-from Coppice Garage. Ltd., Watling Street, Dordon, Tamworth, by Wescol (Bradford), Ltd., Trinity Lane, Ripon., has been re-assigned to Allison's Transport (Contracts), Lid., 119 Clepington Road, Dundee. Wcscol have also been granted a special A licence for a lorry (7 tons 4 cwt,) and low-loading trailer (91 tons). The trailer has now been transferred to J. Curtis and Sons, 1.1d., Batley WorkS, Oxford.

Special A licences for a further eight vehicles, including three articulated outfits (31 tons 4 cwt.), have been granted to A. E. Booty (TranspOrl), Ltd., 15-19 Edgeway Road, thiford.'

EASTERN COUNTIES

Direct purchases have been made by Tartan Arrow Service, Ltd., Pardon House, London, W.1, of -a lorry (81 tons); Mr. W. J. Hall, 139 Beceles Road, Gorlesronon-Sea, one (3 tons); and Messrs, M, C. and G. M. E. Mitson, Church Street, Eye, one (3* tons).

Grange Bros., ltd., Wells, have bought and transferred 14 vehicles, including six articulated outfits, Six of these, including wo articulated outfits (331 tons) have gone in Mr. N. Beech, Hope Street, Hanley: two

articulated outfits (94 tons) to Granges Transport Services, Ltd., Wells; a lorry (3 tons) to Albert Dent (Hilgay), Ltd., Fairfield Garage. Hilgay ; one (3* tons) to Eric W. Barrett (Guist), Ltd„ Manor House, Guist; one (3 tons) to Messrs. 11, J. Pye, Morston Road, Blakeney; and a lorry and the other two articulated .oudits (134 Ions) to (). 0. Barnard and Sons, Ltd., Station Road. Stowmarket.

An articulated outfit (5 tons) taken over from flacketts Haulage. Ltd., 229 Cross Lane. Salloid, 5, by Mr. V. 3. Grange, 124 Bridge Street, Peterborough, has -been re,sold to Messrs. Pocklington Bros,, in the East Midland Traffic Area.

The Eastern Licensing Authority has also outhorind the transfer of a lorry (31 tons) to Litlington Transport, Ltd., Litlington, by 'Mac's Garage (Westeliff-on-Sea), London Road, 'Westcliff-on-Sea; and an articulated outfit (24 tons) to MT. Ten lorues (304 tons) based in Devices have been taken over from Mrs. J. Wes, Newton-le-Willows. Lanes, by Mr. L. Tucker, 81 Hamilton Road, Taunton. Mr. Tucker has transferred 10 lorries (32 tons 18 cwt.) to Taunton Roadways, Ltd., of the same. address, and nine (32 tons II cwt.) to Mr. C. R, T. Swatton, Broughton Gifford, Wilts.

A lorry bought by W. T. Coombs, 31 Freedom Avenue, Yeovil, has been made over to Mr. F. K. Pike. Queens Road, Blandford Forum. It weighs 2 tons 16 cwt. unladen. SOUTHERN AREA A lorry based at Tenterden has been acquired by Messrs. John Jempson and Son, Slade Green, Rye. It weighs 3 tons unladen. A Battle haulage concern, Messrs. Weston and Hoxford, Battle Hill Garage, have purchased four vehicles (11* tons).

William Wood (Polegate), Ltd., West Station Goods Yard, Bexhill-on-Sea, have bought a lorry •(3* tons) based at &idlescorn be.

LONDON AND HOME COUNTIES Four further lorries (10 tons 2 cwt.) based in London have been acquired by Dawharns, Ltd., Ramnoth Road, Wisbech. A direct purchase involving two lorries (7 tons 4 cwt.) has also been made by Mr. A. J. Maths, 50 Southchurch Road, London, F,6.

Hacketts Haulage, Ltd„ 229 Cross Lane, Salford. 5, have transferred two lorries (S tons 16 cwt.) and two trailers to Moby, Ltd., 18 Took's Court, Chancery Lane, London, E.C.4, and a lorry (2 tons 16 cwt.) and a trailer to Peter McCal Itum and Sons, Ltd., Fairhitl. House, Whins-of-Millon, Stirling, Scotland_ Mr. .R. W. Roberts, 54 Broad Lane, London, N.15, has taken over a lorry (2 tons 19 cwt,) from Mr, •1.. Levy, 243 North Circular Road, London. N.I3.

Stokes Transport Co. (1952), Ltd., 95 Central Park Road, London, E.6, who have bought two ex-B.R.S. vehicles, have changed their name to Stokes Transport Co. (London), Ltd.

The South Eastern Licensing. Authority has granted special A licences to Messrs. Aylward Bros., London Road, Teynhani, for a lorry (3 tons); Mr. H. W. Gailot, Stoney Cross, Lyndhurst, one (31 tons); and Messrs. G. T. Wilson and Son, Hunton Place, Hunton, Maidstone, one (3 tons).

White's Transport, Ltd., Laundry Road, Minster-in-Thanct, have taken over four lorries (12 tons) and a trailer (2 tons) from Messrs. White's Transport.

Messrs, T. and J. Transport, Maidenhead, have transferred a lorry (24 tons) to Mr. N. 13uckland, Mayflower, East Street. Maidenhead.
