Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TT is understood that no appeal is to be 1 lodged by Frank Ward, Wolsingham, Co. Durham, against the decision of Alnwick magistrates last week that an outfit operated by him was an articulated vehicle, and not a tractor and trailer. A simple modification is being made to the vehicles in the light of the magistrates' decision, so that they can legally carry loads exceeding 24 tons

The bench held that the swan neck of the outfit was not a towbar, but a builton addition to the towing beam and, therefore, part of the trailer. In their view, the trailer, when coupled to the tractor, came in direct physical contact with the drawing vehicle, or was " superimposed."

it could be remodelled and clarified, especially on the question of what constitutes an articulated vehicle," he said. •

At chassis level at the rear of Ward's tractor was a pin-and-hole fixture for the purpose of attaching a trailer, the chairman continued. " If the trailer in this case had been attached to this fixture by a link or tow bar, the result would seemingly be that the combination would then have been a motorcar and trailer, and not an articulated vehicle, and it may seem a little illogical, that the opposite must result because the two vehicles are joined together by a bolt pin on the top of the drawing
