Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Kent Council is talking to drivers about truck parks. David Harris reports.

MORE TRUCK PARKS could be set up in Kent as the result of a county council survey of HGV drivers' views.

The survey, which was prompted after operators and others complained about inadequate truck parking in the county, is being circulated with the help of the Freight Transport Association.

Darren Cook, transport planner at the council. says: " We have had a number of issues about lack of parking, raised by both truckers and people who have seen trucks parked where they perhaps should not have been.

It has become clear that is sometimes difficult for hauliers to find somewhere suitable and the Working Time Directive is making this an even more important issue," he adds.

The council is questioning drivers, haulage companies and operators of Kent's existing truck parks to assess the extent of the problem.

Cook explains: "Clearly this could be the first step in providing more truck parking, but once we have got the results of the survey we will be able to make a firmer decision on that."

The survey, which has already been completed by nearly 100 respondents, includes questions on how often drivers park overnight in Kern. what facilities they need and where they usually choose to stop, whether in a truck park or elsewhere. The lack of truck parking is a national problem which has been made worse in recent years as many existing truck parks have closed.
