Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

13)RORABLY one of the best-known I track conversion units for Fordson tractors is the D.G., which is produced by Roadless Traction. Ltd., Gunnersbury House, Hounslow, Middlesex. This concern has now introduced what is termed a skeleton type of track, which, whilst not replacing the orig.nal D.G. track, has specific applications where it shows to advantage.

As there is no ground plate, the construction of the skeleton track is lighter than that of the standard product, and there is less tendency, under certain conditions, for the track to ride the sprocket because of track sag. The open construction, prevents mud packing, which also reduces the tendency to sagging.

In place of a ground plate, the skeleton track has a spud plate fitted on each link. These spud plates are t-in. thick, half of them being 12 ins, wide, and -the other half 6 ins, wide, an arrangement which gives a considerable area of support.

The performance of the track, as distinct from any other type, is achieved by penetration only. The fact that adhesion is obtained from penetration and by putting the soil in shear, means that the drawbar pull is not affected by a greasy surface The absence of spade lugs, and the elimination of the laborious work involved in fitting and removing them, will be appreciated where a tractor has, on occasions, to run on the road.
