An important meeting which, it is hoped, will have far-reaching results in respect of the haulage of sugar beet is to be held next Thursday, March 17, at the Red Lion Hotel, Holyhead Road, Wellington, Salop, at 7 p.m. It is to be an open meeting, and all haulage contractors in the area are invited and recommended to be present. The whole subject of haulage of sugar beet to the Aliscott factory is to be thoroughly thrashed out, and S.T.R., The Commercial Motor costs expert, has been asked to take part in the discussion.
M. of T. Accident Analysis: On Tuesday, a report was issued by the Ministry of Transport giving the results of investigations into the circumstances of road accidents involving personal injury, whether fatal or not, during 'the year ended March last. Particulars of nearly 200,000 accidents, resulting in over 6,500 deaths and 230,000 cases of injury,-are analysed.
The latest report contains separate figures for fatal and non-fatal accidents, and it is noteworthy that whilst pedestrians are held responsible for nearly 40 per cent, of the fatal accidents, they are blamed for only $0 per cent. of the non-fatal cases. In our issue for next week we shall analyse the report and give some instructive tabular data.
January's Registration Returns.
The Ministry of Transport return, showing the number of motor vehicles registered for the first time during , January, 1938, has just been published, and an analysis will appear in our issue for next week. The number of goods vehicles licensed in January last was 7,256, compared with 8,132 in January, 1937, the corresponding returns for hackneys being 53$ and 463.
