• Tougher penalties for hauliers running overloaded trucks are being demanded by Lacots, the local authorities trading standards association.
The average fine for overloading is only £200, one tenth oi the maximum allowed, says Lacots chairman Bryn Duggan, It is not enough "to stop firms flouting the law to the detriment of the environment, safety ark fair minded competitors".
