• Our stolen tractive unit featured in your Crimeline column recently ( CM 2-8 April) was recovered on Friday 27 March with forced locks the only damage.
On Friday 10 April the police recovered most of the load along with other stolen goods from this area — I believe a few individuals are assisting the police with their enquiries — and, finally, on Monday 19 May the police informed us that our trailer had been found abandoned in a layby near Kendal. The paint had been removed from the rear doors, but apart from that it was in 100% order.
My faith in the British police has been restored. It appears that they know an awful lot more about what is going on than we realise.
One lesson I have learned is that, just because we have paid our insurance premiums on time for 30 years and never claimed for a stolen vehicle, it does not mean the insurance company will pay out. They argue that we did not take sufficient precautions. Of course, with hindsight, we did not take sufficient precautions — if anyone can steal anything it can be claimed that the owners did not take sufficient precautions. Thankfully, in this particular case, we will not have to pursue the argument to a conclusion. I suggested that we fit a sophisticated alarm system and asked if the insurance company would consider a discount on the premium. This was met with amazement, The fact is that the insurance companies are losing millions and do not intend to pay out anything, if they can get away with it. I would like to express my thanks to Crimeline and the police. With their help we have recovered our property. C D Rory Taylor Managing director Taymix Transport, Blandford, Dorset.
