• Optare has admitted that the engine fitted in its nine-monthold Spectra double-decker is the latest 8.65-litre Daf power unit (CM 13-19 Feb).
Daf wanted to delay the announcement of the engine until its launch in the Leyland Daf 75/85 Series truck range at the Hanover show last month, but Optare has confirmed that the Spectra, which was launched at October's NEC Coach & Bus show, is fitted with the 200kW (272hp) Daf engine. Power options range from 180-222kW (245-302hp), The 200kW variant develops peak torque of 990Nm at 1,400rpm.
The show model is now in service with Reading Buses.
