Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• TNT Express has announced £6m investment plans designed to boost its UK business.

Two new depots will be opened and computer systems will be set up to cope with an anticipated rise in demand.

Over the next few months the company will be ordering 200 new vehicles. The £5m-plus will be covered from TNT's UK profits which are said to have increased to record levels over the past two years, despite poor worldwide results.

The new depots will be in south Manchester and south London; managing director Alan Jones expects them to open in time to meet peak demand at Christmas. Jones expects to create 100 new jobs at the two sites.

Half of the £6m investment will go on the depots; the rest will provide updated computer systems with additional capacity and functions through the TNT network.

TNT divisions have reported volume growth with TNT Express Parcels claiming a 12.5% upturn in the past year and aiming to double this next year. TNT Newsfast, which distributes newspapers and magazines, reported a 25% volume rise.

TNT Contract Distribution has picked up £100m of orders since the beginning of 1992, including contracts for Shell Lubricants, CWS, Nissan Motor (GB), Gestetner, British Telecom, Land Rover, Victoria Wine and GE Lighting.

TNT Truckcare, which provides in-house and third party vehicle maintenance, is planning to add 37 workshops to its existing 63.

El Admiral Sir Raymond Lygo is TNT's new UK chairman; he replaces Peter Allsebrook, who died last year.

Lygo became chief executive of British Aerospace in 1986 before retiring from the company in 1989.
