• The receivers of Belling are in dispute with a transport operator which carried out work for the cooker manufacturer before it collapsed last week.

Receiver KPMG Peat Marwick said this week it was in substantial dispute" with a national carrier involved with Belling.

More than 1,000 of the 1,200 staff at Belling were made redundant last week after the company was pushed into receivership by the depressed market.

Wincanton Distribution Services, which has carried out work for Belling, denies it is the company in dispute with the receivers. Transport division managing director Alastair Elder says: "There's no dispute that I'm aware of ... there were lots of hauliers involved."

Elder says it is "too early" to tell whether the drivers working on the Belling contract will be relocated within Wincanton Distribution Services.
