Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

at US rival

• TNT UK managing director Alan Jones has fired a salvo against Federal Express, claiming that the Americanowned rival parcels carrier cannot match TNT's own services and facilities.

"TNT has doubled its turnover in the last 12 months from 22 million to 24 million per week, and we have increased our UK staff from 3,700 in January 1986 to 6,500 at the latest count," says Jones. "The Americans are renowned for their massive advertising budgets. As we have built our reputation on service, any advertising by the Americans can only help to improve market awareness of our own reliable overnight and same-day delivery services."

OUTSPOKEN

This is Jones's most outspoken attack on Federal Express since the US company entered the british market. with the £24 million takeover of L. Wilkinson in January of last year.

TNT claims market leadership in both the UK and European overnight delivery markets, with 520 UK locations compared to Federal Express 25. Jones also says that TNT leads Federal Express with a nationwide pre9am delivery service, local immediate courier delivery services in the country's major cities, more European terminals and the largest international customs hub in Britain.

Federal Express did not wish to comment on Jones' statement at the time of going to press.
