CAPACITY of a new double-drive rear bogie (left) produced

for the Scammell Constructor is 30 tons. The model has been designed for vehicles engaged on extremely arduous work and employs two-spring suspension with axle location by longitudinal and' transverse radius rods. Reduced maintenance is a feature, the radius rods being rubber bushed, and there am only three grease nipples to each axle and only 15 in the whole asseinbl y.

The springs bear on hardened-steel pads mounted on top of the axle casing and they are carried on oil-immersed trunnions between the axles. The drive between the axles goes through a third differential which can be locked from the cab, and input torques of up to 9,500 lb. ft. are possible. Braking is by air-operated S-cam units. 15.5 in. by 7 in. with up to 20 in. wheels and tyres and 18 in. by 7 in. when 22 in. tyres and above are fitted. Twin tyres up to 14-00 can be accommodated and reduction ratios of 6-058. 7738 and 8769 to 1 are available for normal use with 9-17. 12.67, and 14-36 to I available for extra-high tractive effort with train weights of 100 tons or more.
