venture V V in Leeds has failed, the whole flow of traffic in the centre of the city has improved since the new one-way system was introduced, so enabling the transport department to maintain a far higher standard of timekeeping at peak periods. This improvement is reported by Mr. Arnold Stone, chief traffic officer of Leeds City Transport, who adds that such a special express service for motorists who leave their cars two or three miles outside the central zone has not been condemned for all time. If the number of cars continues to increase as forecast, probably doubling present numbers by the 1970s, then restrictions on the entry of cars into the centre of cities like Leeds will be necessary. Park and ride services must then become a feasible proposition.
