than cars and motorcycles, rose from 10,996 in February to 16,864 in March. The biggest single increase was in "other goods' from 7.035 to 10,095.
For the first three months of the year new registrations totalled 44,451, the figure for the corresponding period last year being 40,352. Further details are given in the table below.
F.B.I. SCHOLARSHIPS EXTENDED
THE scheme promoted and fostered by the Federation of British Industries, whereby young graduate engineers from the less-developed countries are brought to Britain for practical training, has been greatly extended.
Originally it was confined almost exclusively to certain major Commonwealth countries. As a result of a mission to Latin America in 1952, scholarships were offered, a year ago, to the principal Latin American republics and scholars from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay are among those who have come to this country.
The scheme has now been opened to a number of other Commonwealth countries and to certain foreign countries in the Middle East and elsewhere.
Details of these scholarships are given in a booklet just issued by the Federation. Copies are available free on request to F.B.I., 21 Tothill Street, London, S.W.1.
SHARE OF RECEIPTS SUBJECT to review later, when the new boundaries of Ashton-underLyne are settled, Oldham Transport Committee have authorized the general manager of the municipal undertaking to agree with the undertakings concerned, to the provisional allocation of' receipts on the Rochdale and Ashton service as follows:—Oldham 48.053 per cent., Ashton-under-Lyne 27.52 per cent., and Rochdale 24.427 per cent These figures are based on a check taken from March 4-April 10.
