The L.M.S. Railway Co. is due for a dose of its own medicine next Tuesday, when it will apply to the North Western Licensing Authority for additional tonnage to replace horses. Numerous members of the C.M.U.A. will object. The applications affect bases at Littleborough, Rochdale, Burnley, Hollinwood, Oldham, Liverpool and Manchester, and will be heard at Manchester Town Hall at 10.30 a.m. on June 15.

S.A.R. Call for Bus Seats.

The South African Railways and Harbours Administration is calling for tenders for the supply of firstand third-class suburban-type tubularframed bus seats, the closing date for their receipt being August 9. Another Convert to the Converter.

West Monmouthshire Omnibus Board has recently placed an order for its first Leyland bus with hydraulic transmission, which, in keeping with the rest of its fleet, will be a singledecker. Of the 91 municipalities in Great Britain operating motorbuses, we learn that 33 of•them now use Leyland buses with this class of transmission.

Overseas Buyers of Steamers.

Amongst export orders recently received by the Sentinel Waggon Works (1936), Ltd., Shrewsbury, is one from the Griffin Engineering Co., of South Africa, for six special heavy-duty sixwheeled tippers, two six-wheelers and two four-wheelers, and another from Turkey for a four-wheeled tipper.

Widening the London-Oxford Road.

A new layout, consisting of dual carriageways; cycle tracks and footpaths, has been adopted for the LondonOxford road, at Hayes, Middlesex. The cost is estimated at neairly £80,000.

Each of the dual carriageways will be 27 ft. wide, and, for the benefit of the cyclists who work at the factories in the district, the cycle tracks will be constructed to the maximum width of 9 ft. The scheme is the first part of a comprehensive plan for modernizing between Southall and Uxbridge.
