• Eezee Euro, the company which took over the depots of collapsed clearing house Transworld, has closed three of them because they were not "economically viable".
Middlesbrough, Immingham and Stratford Upon Avon have closed, leaving depots at Widnes, Nottingham, Dundee, Felixstowe and Grays. These will stay open for "the forseeable future", says Eezee Euro executive chairman Bernard O'Brien. Tony Stevenson, depot manager at Stratford until it closed last week, claims that his final wage cheque of £854 has been stopped twice.
He says Eezee Euro has told him payment has been suspended until missing depot paperwork is found — but Stevenson says that Eezee Euro took all the papers away when it shut Stratford. "Two of them walked in here, announced the depot was closed for financial reasons, and asked for our car keys," he says.
O'Brien says that Stevenson's wage cheque has been stopped because Eezee Euro is investigating contract notes at the Stratford depot. "As soon as discrepancies in paperwork have been resolved, Tony Stevenson's cheque will be released," says O'Brien.
O'Brien says that Eezee Euro is now seeking a "better quality of customer".
