n a morning stroll with Foden the dog, the Hawk notices two young women with four toddlers trying, in vain, to cross the road against endless rush-hour traffic.
Cars stream by oblivious of their plight.
It is left to a Biffa refuse truck driver to pull to a halt, signal to oncoming
traffic to stop, and allow the group to cross to the day. nursery opposite. The driver acknowledges the women's gratitude with a cheery wave and a grin.
Call me old fashioned, but it is Knight of the Road behaviour like this that goes a long way to making lorries — and lorry drivers — more popular. In fact, it puts motorists to shame.
