• Volvo has terminated its co-operation agreement with Czechoslovakian truck manufacturers Liaz and Tatra.
The Swedish giant says that after 18 months of talks it has decided not to "give priority to a comprehensive arrangement with, or possible takeover or the Czechs.
Instead Volvo plans to develop its own commercial operation in Czechoslovakia.
Liaz and Tatra are believed to have initiated the talks. Both specialise in rigids and rely heavily on military sales.
Several western truck manufacturers including Iveco, MAN and Daimler-Benz have made inroads into eastern Europe, signing co-operation deals with jelcz in Poland, TAM and Zastava in Yugoslavia, and Max and Kamaz in the Soviet Union,
