• The recession continues to take a disastrous toll on the transport industry, with sales of trucks and artics down over 38% in the first half of the year compared with 1990.
But according to the statistics from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, there are signs that the market
might have hit bottom. June sales of trucks and artics over 3,500kg were down 34% on June 1990, compared with April and May year-on-year reductions of 46% and 37% respectively.
Leyland Daf tops the half-year sales league with 3,989 sales, followed by Iveco Ford (3,852) and Mercedes-Benz (2,596).
