MORE than one-third of the vehicles carrying explosive or inflammable loads through the Thames tunnels are potential "bombs" which could cause a catastrophe, says the GLC. And because of this, the fines on drivers infringing the dangerous goods by-laws may be increased by the GLC from £20to £400 maximum.
A report before the transport committee of the GLC on Tuesday said that spot checks on 110 vehicles in the past 18 months had revealed 38 infringements of the by-laws.
