BUS LANE projects must be tailor-made to meet local needs and circumstances, insists the Planning and Transportation Committee of the Association of Metropolitan Authorities. The committee says that the Department of the Environment apparently in tends to require all bus lanes to be either 24 hour or 12 hour lanes.
The two groups insisted that, to achieve public acceptance, bus lanes must meet local requirements. Committee members pointed out that of 334 bus lanes at present in operation throughout the country only eight were " 12 hour lanes " as set out in the DoE proposals.
