A RISING out of a "closed shop" rldemand made by the local branch of the Transport and General Workers' Union, on behalf of its members employed by Leeds Passenger Transport Department, a meeting between the passenger transport committee and representatives of the union was held on July 4.
The meeting was convened after a warning had been given that the department's employees in the Union would refuse to work with non-union employees -after August 9. Union representatives are to be given facilities to make an accurate check of tradeunion membership, and the general manager is to interview non-union employees to ascertain their individual reasons for not wishing to join a union.
