West Ham Town Council has accepted the tender of the Knebworth Carriage and Motor Body Works for the supply of motor-ambulance and disinfecting van-bodies.
The Oldham Board of Guardians has appointed a sub-committee to undertake the purchase of a motor ambulance for the removal of pauper lunatics from the workhouse to county asylums.
In the House of Commons on 3rd July Mr. Norton Griffiths asked whether taxicab drivers are subjected to compulsory insurance under Part I of the National Insurance Act, although such men, as a rule, are not paid wages. In reply, Mr. Masterman stated that the answer was in the affirmative.
L.G.O.C. Reconstruction.
In further reference to the plan outlined in our issue of the 27th ult., we have now to report that this was approved at an extraordinarygeneral meeting of the L.G.O.C'. held on the 3rd inst.
Mr. C. J. Cater Scott, who presided, remarked that all must have recognized that sooner or later reconstruction was inevitable, seeing that the Underground Co. purchased the L.G.O.C. stock with a view to carrying out a settled policy of dealing with the traffic problems of London. The company to-day was still willing to pay the small body of dissentients for the stock which they held. After several shareholders had spoken in opposition, and a motion
for the adjournment of the reconstruction scheme had been proposed and seconded, the chairman demanded a poll. Only £7719 of ordinary stock supported the opposition, compared with 21,131,784 for the scheme.
White Ambulances in Russia.
We illustrate, on the second page of this issue, one of many incidents with which ELM the Czar was personally connected during recent military trials in and around St. Petersburg. Mr. Frederick Coleman, who commands the White interests in the United Kingdom and Europe, has been spending several weeks in looking after business which is now offering, and some of which is already placed.
These trials were of a particularly-arduous nature, and the competition in them was most severe. No fewer than five White vehicles went through most successfully, and without suffering breakages or troubles of any kind. Mr. Coleman was personally complimented on the excellent performance of the White machines, and their running has fully borne out the high reputation and vogue which are enjoyed by this make with the American War Office, as regards reliability, speed and petrol consumption.
These Russian tests were over a total distance of some 2000 miles, a triangular course being followed, from St. Petersburg towards Poland, thence to Moscow, and back to St. Petersburg.

London's Traffic Rivals.
The L.C.C. tramway receipts, for the week ended the 26th ult., were 243,885, compared with 247,507. for the corresponding week of 1911; the L.G.0,C. receipts, for the week ended the 8th inst., were £58,623, compared with 245,353 for the corresponding week of 1911. The L.C.C. decrease is £3622 ; the L.G.O.C. gain is 213,270.
