THE GENEROUS concessions available to Euro-5 trucks running on Continental roads have prompted Reading, Berks, operator Pulleyn Transport to spend an extra £1,000 per vehicle on its three new tractor units.
The firm has decided to skip Euro-4 and head straight for Euro-5 after a careful comparison of the cost savings involved, particularly when running on German roads.
Along with the first three Actroses, Pulleyn has ordered a further 11 Euro-5 Actroses which will replace its remaining Dafs.This will make Pulleyn an all-Mercedes fleet for the first time. The company specialises in transporting pharmaceutical goods.
MD Adrian Pulleyn says:"If you were only making the occasional run over to Europe then it would be difficult to justify paying the extra for a Euro-5 vehicle. "However, most of our work involves sending vehicles across the Channel; I would estimate that at any one time 90% of our trucks are on the Continent."
