• Hauliers awaiting the fallout from the takeover of cement giant Blue Circle have been reassured that UK operations will not be affected.
French company Lafarge is to acquire the company in a deal worth £3.1bri But while some jobs at the Blue Circle head office could be at risk, a spokesman promises that other UK jobs and transport operations will not be affected. "This is not about rationalisation," he explains.

Blue Circle currently makes up to six million tonnes of cement a year at its nine UK cement works—the acquisition will create the world's largest cement producer.
