• Drivers in the Midlands can look forward to pay increases of around 3":0 or .E5.27 a week following the announcement of the first Road Haulage Association's annual pay agreements.
The RHA's East and West Midlands regional offices have become the first to conclude the Joint Industrial Council UIC) agreements with the Transport The union says the 3% rise means that every driver should now receive its target minimum wage of ..C4 per hour. All negotia tions are based on a 40-hour week and are only binding on hauliers who guarantee J1C rates, but many other hauliers base their pay offers on the RHA rate.
Jim Weir, new managing director of Aldridge-based intermodal operator S Jones, says: We will be sitting down with our drivers and would be looking to bring about an increase in productivity to go with any wage rises. Obviously we look at the JIC agreement as a jumping off point."
