• NORTHERN IRELAND CARRIERS SWAN Alasdair Swan, managing director of Caledonian Oil Company, has additionally been appointed director in charge of Northern Ireland Carriers. Both companies are part of Scottish Road Services, the NFC firm. Swan plans to extend NIC's operations in the Province.

• ROYAL MAIL PARCELS YOUNG Royal Mail Parcels has appointed Andy Young as international manager. He leaves TNT where he was divisional ' operational quality manager.

• CITY VEHICLE ENGINEERING WILLSHER/DALEY/ PRITCHETT/PRESLEY/ MARSDEN City Vehicle Engineering has recruited four regional sales executives to sell its Omni bus. Tom Willsher will be re sponsible for the North-East; he joins CVE from the Arlington Motor Company. Peter Daley joins CVE from Peugeot Talbot, and will be responsible for sales in the South-East.

Tim Presley has left Stuart Johnson to take responsibility for Omni sales in the NorthWest, while Graham Pritchett joins from the Arlington Motor Company, and will be responsible for sales in the South-West.

All four will report to John Marsden who was appointed sales and marketing manager, from Stuart Johnson, last September.

New secretary general of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) is Dutchman Arend Jan Westerink.

He began his career in 1960 with the Dutch International Road Haulage Organisation, where for the past three years he was managing director.

III FEDERAL EXPRESS FRANKLIN Federal Express Systemcare Home Delivery Services has appointed Elly Franklin as personnel and training manager. She will be responsible for a workforce of 250.

• PETER LANE TRANSPORT RICHARDS Gwynne Richards, formerly national sales manager with Dawson Rentals, has joined Peter Lane Transport as sales manager. • IVECO FORD EMMS Nigel Emms has left Mercedes-Benz, where he was public relations manager for commercial vehicles, to become the new manager of external relations at lveco Ford. He will be supported by Tony Smith as image and public affairs manager, and John Lincoln as public relations assistant.

Gibb Grace, who is currently product and communications manager, is to take up other as-yet-unknown assignments within the company.

11 JOHN DEE GROUP MATURI/HIBBERT Julian Maturi has joined the John Dee Group as general manager, home deliveries, based at the company's head office in Ferryhill, County Durham. He moves from Archbold Distribution of Leeds where he was operations manager.

Also moving from Archbold to John Dee is Andrew Hibbert, who is appointed project manager in marketing.

• ROSS & BONNYMAN PARR Richard Parr takes over as managing director of Ross & Bonnyman, Forfar-based transport equipment makers. He joins from Schmidt UK where he was technical director in charge of design and manufacture of road-cleansing vehicles.

• RHAIS OLIVER Lynda Oliver is appointed a director of RHA Insurance Services, the insurance broking arm of the Road Haulage Association. She has been involved since the company's inception in 1983 and devised the Roadway Lawplan Scheme which offers legal protection to RHA members.

• GKN LEADBETTER/COWBURN Ian Leadbetter joins GKN Technology as managing director, following the retirement of Dr Barry Smith after 30 years. Leadbetter was formerly managing director of the engineering and research centre of Netherlands-based SKF.

GIiN Composites, also Midlands-based, has appointed David Cowburn as managing director. He succeeds Dr Mike Lea.

• STORMONT KING Nikki King becomes first woman director of Stormont, the Kent Ford main dealer. She has been fleet general manager since 1987.
