• Word reaches me of a coach operator, transporting a jury from the Central Criminal Court, who had to make an unusual detour — to allow one juror to take his dog for a walk.
The judge allowed the excursion after he received a note from the foreman of the jury which said one of the jurors was seriously worried about his pet alsatian, which had been left alone in a flat in East London. However, the rules in criminal cases say members of a jury must stay together once they have retired. All 12 good men and true were duly sent off to walk the dog.
