Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Exports of British-built Leyland Daf commercial vehicles almost doubled to more than 9,000 units last year, from 4,900 in 1988.

This helped to boost parent company Daf NV's 1989 net profits from £47.8 million to £55.3 million. Chairman Aart van der Padt says: "Daf expects to deliver at least the same number of vehicles into the market as in 1989." However, the company plans to persevere with plans for a 12% cutback in production at its Leyland plant for nine weeks from mid-February (CM 21 December 1989-3 January 1990).
